saturday i spent the day outside of the city at my sister's beach cottage. the weather was mild so the day was happily spent inside the house enjoying time with family.
i absolutely love her home, its style is simple and pretty with an unfussy beach vibe.
below are a few pics from saturday.

muji
i'm headed to new york and am ready for a long four day weekend.
below is a photo of a little nyc in my living room by muji-a japanese based store that has really great simple, clean accessories. i found this store on one of my trips to nyc by way of jfk terminal.
they also have store in soho i love to visit when i'm in the neighborhood. anytime i walk through muji i want to base my entire household design aesthetic around it.
while the main reason i go is to see family, i'm ready to be back in the fast beat of the city for a bit.

intellectual ruffles
yesterday afternoon was a perfect happenstance. on a friend's recommendation i've been meaning to make a visit to the museum of phoenix's art exhibit entitled, " fashion independent: the original style of ann bonfoey taylor". with the museum open until nine only on wednesdays, i knew this was going to be my last chance to see the exhibit before its memorial day close.
upon arrival with a friend i noticed the museum was filled with people dressed up, an unusual site on a wednesday night in phoenix. with excited buzz on the night’s lecture swirling around me, i asked a nearby docent who was speaking that night. hamish bowles, the european editor at large for vogue was doing a lecture entitled, “balenciaga in spain” a discussion on his in-depth research on the life of designer cristóbal balenciaga. the lecture was amazing with balenciaga’s sketches juxtaposed with religious, spanish traditional, and abstract art. the parallels were remarkable and mr. bowles truly presented the perfect balance between fashion and timeless art.
below are some images that a took throughout the visit, my only regret was not having more time to walk through the entire museum. i will be visiting again very soon.

goodwill & me
goodwill and i have been great friends since my early teens. one of my best finds was a baby blue pair of men's dress shorts with a really small leaf embroidered at the bottom-sadly i burned through the polyester blend with the wrong heat setting, and to this day i hope that i find an identical pair.
my best recommendation is to visit out the boys' section-i've found fun t-shirts, button downs, cardigans & my absolutely *favorite* boys' fit black blazer w/ bright gold buttons. these purchases have stayed constant in my wardrobe and i doubt will ever see a goodwill bin again.
below is the top of a cocktail dress i recently found and i can't wait to find the perfect place to debut it.

calvin and hobbes
having a really quiet and uneventful saturday is the best time to let your mind wander to childhood. one of my favorite memories is reading comics by bill watterson, calvin and hobbes. the hilarious adventures of the six-year old calvin and his stuffed tiger filled my sunday afternoons with such fun.
what were your favorite comics/reads when you were younger?

citrus
i love these prints by stella mccartney. they remind me of spring and summer at their prettiest. since these pieces are way out of my price range....maybe i can find a fun fruit print in the fabric store and sew myself something up?
yes. i think so....

droog
a few years ago i was lucky enough to see a droog exhibit in new york. one reason i appreciate this group of artists' works are their sheer originality in taking everyday elements and molding them into practical fantasies.

cacharel
i love this line-just flipped through it and am so happy i came across it.
i wear alot of solids, and usually have no more than three colors on at the one time. i think it has to do with my height and not wanting to stunt it with alot of busy-ness. cédric charlier, cacharel's head designer does a great job of mixing both pattern and solids. below are images from his fall rtw 2011 line.

one size fits small
vogue's march 2011 article entitled, "south korea: the epicenter of the fashion universe" was equally a great read and a little outdated. not to boast, but i've known this for quite some time now.
studying abroad in singapore afforded me three day course filled weeks and long weekends to take in all that southeast asia had to offer. midway through my semester i took a five day trip to south korea, which opened me up to an entirely new fashion sensibility. dongdaemun market, the 24 hr. shopping mall with shops and shops of amazingly cut and fitted clothing at reasonable pricing. i was hooked.
returning home i searched hard on the internet for an online hub that offered me access to south korean designers back in the states. yesstyle.com is my best kept secret :)
website advantages: cutting-edge clothing, quality made with reasonable pricing.
website disadvantages: lengthy shipping times (comparable to asos.com) and sizing runs small (which could also be an advantage for some)
below is a link to yesstyle.
above pics of the vogue article, dongdaemun market, and some recently bought jackets :)
