i'm not big on volume. unless i'm trying to hide a few extra lbs. i find that fuller pieces just put additional size onto my petite height. flipping through dries van noten's fall collection however i see that feather volume might actually be flattering, maybe the idea of flight makes the pieces seem more airy and light.

.the cools, the popular lunch table.

on Bof today, an article about the website 'the cools' sparked my interest. an newly opened website to the public offering handpicked pieces from handpicked independent designers/artists to give you a handpicked collection of cool. handpicked being the operative word. i signed up, and fell in love with several pieces of furniture, art prints, and clothing from unknown designers.

7:32 am and i'm already feeling pretty cool....great start to a friday morning.

how do you combine a luxury fur with the art of using rubber bands and dip-dye and somehow making it look chic? oh! i know, hand it over to miuccia prada. the juxtaposition is amazing.....so crazy genius.

.editorial vs. commercial, a derek lam/kohl's failure.

my anticipation for derek lam's capsule collection with kohl's was palpable. i always get excited for designer's collaborations with large chains as i feel they can use this chance to raise the bar for retailer's regular season's offerings. one piece in particular, the jumpsuit shown in several ads and the official lookbook, made me giddy. it had such a great cut, and looked less mainstream, far more high-end and editorial than you typically see in capsules....i anxiously awaited its april debut.

this, until the actual debut. while flipping through whowhatwear's slideshow of the collection, now available at kohl's, i clicked on the direct link and was sorely disappointed at what was actually selling in stores. a very, very watered down form of this jumpsuit, practically indistinguishable to the lookbook picture. i was dumbstruck. how does this happen? when a genius piece from a designer's drawing board gets cut, and nipped and sliced into something completely unrecognizable from it's original sketch? very disappointed, hopefully derek lam can offer this jumpsuit again at a later point, in its better form.

.in search of the perfect black pointy flat.

i'd really love a black pointy flat for summer. but....i have a bad physical reaction to spending more than thirty dollars for a pair a flats, funds to me better saved for a pair of fantastic heels, which would put me up with the bigger people. so, i've searched and searched and searched (its what i do, ask my friends) for the perfect pair....and still have wound up empty handed. a similar situation occurred with the search for the perfect white tank, found .here.. fyi- this took months.

help may be needed. let me know if you find a better alternative friends.

i've tasked myself with cleaning out my closet this week. with the upcoming season change, its the a good time to clear out the old and de-clutterize. this is not such an easy chore as some of the donations were hard. pieces from my study abroad program (fall 2006) which have i still have nostalgic attachments to were the toughest to cut. only a few were let go....perhaps on the next go ill be more severe.

below is a dress that i bought in ko phi phi, thailand, which will never be given away. it's the perfect cut for summer and feels like a second skin to me now. the shoes are new from zara, and i cannot wait to break them in with a great pair of baggy jeans, overalls perhaps.....i should have kept a pair from my grade school collection. i love that they're the perfect balance of masculine & feminine.

.the details, givenchy fall 2013.

flipping through givenchy this morning i realized i wasn't as impressed as i usually am with their pieces. the brand breeds rock n' roll to the core, and so at the bird's eye view it met all requirements of the label's aesthetic, but each look seemed to bleed into the other, making it seem a little dull. that was until i started digging into the details. as you can see (at the magnified level) riccardo tisci's genuis showed through with how intricately he placed each the belt, undergarment, and ruffle.

the details were what made this collection. well done.

every time i am in new york visiting family i try to peek into zero + maria cornejo's store on greenwich st. peek being the operative word as her pieces are both beautifully crafted, and a bit out of price range. but oh how i love the detail, and how uniquely clean-lined each piece is. i'm really inspired by her fall red pieces, the richness and detail are remarkable.

and the red cocoon jacket, its what dreams are made of.

.inspiration on top of inspiration.

a great way to start the week, realizing your passions for clothing style and  home design sync almost perfectly, and that life imitates art, in the small things. below is a library book that i have renewed once already and see myself renewing at least once more. it highlights mid-centtury living quarters of famous architects and furniture designers of the mid-century and how it ultimately inspired their design aesthetics. i have gotten lost in this book for hours and highly recommend it. the inspiration on top are a pair of marco santi heels i picked up from nordstrom's last chance this weekend, a steal that i plan to pair with my baggiest jeans and a white tank for summer. perfect.

.the lady returns.

in a sea of platforms, 3 inch lifts, and flat wedges, i realized i no longer had a single lady heel in my possession. women, for obvious reasons, have embraced the sky high heel. typically more forgiving in the comfort and balance department, i have no qualms running in a chunky heel-i of little to no hand-eye coordination. but what about the daintier affairs, the earlier dinners, the after work drinks? they call for a more reasonable (for lack of a better adjective) height and heel.

so, these were my pick to get back into the swing of a proper lady heel, in all of their gold-columned glory. if you see me with a raised pinkie while rocking them, it's acceptable to laugh.

.a minimalist conflicted.

i'm a minimalist at heart. i find that a no-fuss approach to style is my forte and i enjoy simple and clean lines. with this said, i find my personal style is constantly evolving and as much as i love structure, i absolutely loved the madness of dolce & gabbana's spring 2013 collection. these looks imagine me on a gypsy vacation, with red wine in hand and cobble-stoned streets.
