.a wish list of sorts.

i treat a wish list as an inspiration board-pieces that translate easily to different brands, seasons, new or vintage. hopefully i can find the exact/similar style on a future weekend shop.

xxo, dany

clockwise from top:
  • 80/20 booties- i love how comfortable these shoes are and still give me a little lift
  • topshop dress- great embroidery-perfect for a post heat indian summer night
  • zadig & voltaire necklace- the linked hearts would be a great, unexpected accent
  • topshop blouse- could easily be found at a vintage shop
  • zadig & voltaire hunter green bag- great shape and perfect for day & night
  • topshop lace top - could be worn both casual and formal, depending on the rest of the outfit

.style board: camilla belle.

one thing i love about camilla belle's style is that her choices are well picked and often beyond her age. while she loves to try new looks and offers an array of style, i appreciate that she does not pick the typical skin baring pieces that plague most young starlets' wardrobes.

.design color overload.

these images make me want to buy the first around the world ticket i can find to stand in awe of them. the cool hunter is a phenomenal one-stop shop of all things design, art, and beauty-things we all need for inspiration in our sometimes monotonous daily lives.

below is the website and a few images that made my heart beat faster.

vintage finds: exploring weekend

for the past two weekends i've visited local vintage stores and documented my finds. it's so fun to find these little treasure troves around phoenix- places you can get one of a kind pieces that no other store can offer is such a thrill! additionally, i was able to meet up with two other fantastic bloggers in the area-mandy from kini style file and cheryl from oh to be a muse who are both a wealth of knowledge and so fantastic to share ideas with.

below are some of my favorite pieces, some owned, gifted, and some still looking for an new owner-hope you enjoy them and it gets you in the mood for your own vintage exploration!

table for one please

this post is two-fold, one half cooking, one half book recommendation. in the book section of goodwill (another great area of the store) i found the best seller entitled, 'french women don't get fat' by mireille guiliano. i have heard of this book a few times and am happily surprised it was worth the purchase. while her eating tips are useful and entertaining, my favorite part of the book are its recipes. having a boyfriend with a gluten allergy kicked my cooking interest, somewhat lacking until recently, into high gear. tonight i decided to pick two easy recipes (salad & dessert) from the book paired with a yummy broiled salmon. presentation is also key-peep my favorite dinner plates by midcentury designer paul mccobb, gifted by my sister.

all three recipes are simple, delicious and super healthy. link below to the book and read on for recipes.

style board: isabel lucas

australian actress isabel lucas has an impressively unique style. its part bohemian, part 60's flower child, part casual chic makes it look effortless, something that very rarely happens in hollywood.

asian designers welcome

i've been toying (ok, dreaming) about the idea of wearing only asian designers-and i know i'm in good company. i came across a new york times article on the cultural explosion of talented asian-american designers making a name for themselves. from alexander wang to prabal gurung, jason wu, andrew gn, thakoon, phillip lim, the list is getting longer and longer and i am looking forward to the newbies.

below are image boards on three of my favorites.

vintage wonderland

saturday afternoon rekindled my love for vintage resale shops. tucked away in oldtown scottsdale is a vintage disneyland, fashion by robert black. the little shop run by him and his business partner doreen picerne has a full collection of jewelry, blouses, hats, belts, dresses, and evening gowns that kept me quietly occupied for a good part of the afternoon, and if not for other pending errands would have kept me till close. they were both kind enough to allow me to take pictures and also answered questions on several  pieces. one dress (the yellow with orange embroidery) reminded me vividly of prada's spring 2011 collection, with its spanish influenced embroidery-its previous owner had brought this piece and a second multicolored dress with yarn pom-poms all over. the woman had also attached a photo of her in one, both dresses bought circa 60's in puerta vallarta. i myself left with an opera coat, a pair of bright orange clip-on earrings, and a gorgeous choker (all to be posted soon!).

oh the stories these dresses could tell....another afternoon very soon will be spent at this special boutique. below are some images i took through the day, followed by the prada spring campaign i kept thinking about.

warm weather welcome

summertime means easy pieces and a departure from my regularly dark attire. below are some pieces from resort 2011.

each color reminds me of a different location (left to right):
  • yellow for an early brunch with trip to a museum in the afternoon - jenni kayne
  • white for a casual summer party (topped off with tons of vintage jewelry) - missoni
  • blue for dinner and a breezy night walk - adam
  • creme embroidery for an evening of cocktails and dancing - chanel

how to: eyes?

sadly, this is not a tutorial on how to do eyes-it is a question posed -how to do eyes? i notice women (both young and old) that have perfectly done eyes and i unfortunately have never had the knack for it. i love natural-but it would be fun to have a go to eye for a night out. a trip to a makeup counter may be in store for me this weekend.

below are two examples of great eye makeup.

elephant sighting on 13th & 9th

walking the west village is a favorite pastime of mine. less hectic than soho, it is a perfect spot for people watching, window shopping, and lazy wandering. on this particular visit i spotted it-the beautiful eames elephant in vitra, a pricey but amazing furniture and interior home design store.

below are pics i took throughout my walk, some of my favorites on the highline walkway.
